I have never once in my life heard a single Oneness Pentecostal support Modalism. John is either ignorant or straight up lying. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the godhead bodily. Jesus was both absolutely God and absolutely a man at the same time. God IS a spirit. There's no separating it. John is just being dishonest.

Avoiding Direct Helpful Discipline. I believe that if I'd grown up a decade later than I did, had been raised in a different area, and/or had been born to different parents who were willing to accept excuses for me, I would have been diagnosed with ADHD. I had the worst time paying attention throughout much of school. Countless times any one of my teachers would give an assignment, and I had no idea what the assignment was because as soon as she started talking, I was on another planet. Thankfully, I was raised to know that there were consequences behind not performing well based on lack of attentiveness. I also understood, as a young kid, that failure to listen was an act (or lack of one) and not a condition--I didn't accept the modern idea of that just being who I was or how I was. Lastly, I was stubborn, and having two older brothers who performed very well in school, I wanted to do as well as them or better. So, as an elementary school kid, with no prompt or coaching from any adult, I committed to forcing myself to being more attentive in school and not daydreaming through half the day or letting other less important things "steal" my attention. (I don't mention the no adult help out of arrogance but to affirm that young kids understand personal responsibility when you don't allow them to get away with excuses. Ultimately, I credit God's grace for whatever success I had in this.) It wasn't easy at first. I was constantly checking myself throughout the day as I'd catch myself being drifting when my teacher was speaking. But I stuck with it, and lo and behold, it became a lot easier. And really, it seemed like it became so much easier overnight. It didn't take very long to improve, but it was a leaky tire kind of thing. Throughout my childhood I'd find myself falling back into my old ways and have to again work on forcing myself to be attentive in class. I might've not ever thought much about all of this again, but I remember that this discussion topic came up in a high school class once, and I've thought back to this from time to time over the years. At some point in the discussion, the teacher asked if any of us students had trouble with inattentiveness. I said that I do/have. She asked how I've dealt with it, and not expecting it to be the right answer, I just honestly said that I constantly remind myself to refocus. And the way she immediately responded--not emphatically but immediately, repeating my response as she nodded--affirmed to me that that is the correct and perhaps only way to deal with it. I encourage people to read George Crabb's Diagnostic and Spiritual Manual (DSM) Books 1 and 2. He has a chapter on ADD/ADHD.

The genuine distinction between Father and Son, and to a lesser extent the Spirit, is temporal in nature. Not an eternal distinction between persons, but rather a distinction between God’s eternal divine existence and His genuine human existence as the man Jesus. At the incarnation Yahweh (YHWH) assumed human nature and began a distinct and permanent existence as a man with a genuine human consciousness; this is literally the Son of God, not a pre-existent second person but a child sired by the Spirit of God. No different in principle than Yahweh visibly manifested as the angel of the LORD leading the children of Israel in the wilderness while Yahweh invisibly rides the glory cloud. Or the visible angel of the LORD preparing to slay Jerusalem and being spoken to by the invisible LORD (2 Samuel 24:16). In the incarnation Yahweh is visibly existing as a genuine man with a genuine human consciousness. Why emphasize this? Why is this important? For our salvation to be efficacious, the sacrifice must be as genuine as Adam's humanity. So then He must have a genuine human mind and will and willingly make a conscious decision to sacrifice Himself, just as Adam willingly chose to sin. Remember, Eve was deceived, Adam was not. Further, that sacrifice must have infinite value to secure the salvation of all mankind, not merely that of a single man. This is the hypostatic union. How does it work for a single divine being to exist both visible and invisible? It's the mystery of godliness. But think of how many times we see the angel of the LORD (visible) and the invisible presence and voice of the LORD in the same setting throughout the Old Testament. The incarnation is now Yahweh with a permanent visible existence, yet continuing to exist invisibly beyond all creation as He has always existed. Of course He delights in confounding the wise with this conundrum while rewarding the humble seeker.
